ITB Campus Tour - QB Edition
Yesterday we reported that Arizona State head coach Dirk Koetter changed his mind and chose Rudy Carpenter as the starting QB over Sam Keller. What I did not realize was the circumstances that lead up to this decision. Koetter made an announcement on Friday saying Keller would start but after a meeting with school officials and members of the team he decided to change his mind to Carpenter. Don't get me wrong I don't think you can go wrong with either guy, but isn't this sound like the inmates running the prison. I would love to find out what the players said to Koetter to change his mind, and what effect it could have on other position battles that are going on. I don't like the sound of all of this one bit.
Speaking of Sam Keller, he got released from his scholarship and has narrowed his search of schools down to three. ESPN.com is reporting that the Nebraska Cornhuskers look like the front runners right now. Keller can transfer to Nebraska, sit out this year, and take over for Zac Taylor who graduates at the end of this season. Now only if we could find a way to make Arizona State and Nebraska play in 2007, we'd have one heck of a storyline brewing.
For a third generation player Joe Tereshinski III's wishes came true when he was chosen to be the starting QB for the Georgia Bulldogs when their season opens up at home September 2 against Western Kentucky. In his only start last season, Tereshinski was 8-of-21 passes for 100 yards with an interception in a 14-10 loss against Florida. He was filling in for an injured DJ Shockley.
The USC Trojan's named their captains and in that list solidified John David Booty as the starting QB. The junior was injured in the spring with back problems but won the job over RS Fr Mark Sanchez. The Trojans open up the season September 2 at Arkansas.
Keeping with the Trojan's theme, former USC QB Rocky Hinds was named the starter for the UNLV Runnin Rebels. Hinds beat out senior Shane Steichen for the starting position. UNLV opens their season against Idaho State on September 2.
Across the city from USC, head coach Karl Dorrell announced Monday that Ben Olson will be the starting QB for the UCLA Bruins when the season opens up. Olson beat out Patrick Cowan for the job. Olson who is a transfer from BYU will be the signal caller when Utah comes to visit on September 2.
