Willie Williams to Troy?
No, not to join the USC Trojans.
Former University of Miami linebacker Willie Williams, a top 10 recruit in 2004 according to scout.com, is now looking into transfering to Troy University, according to the Miami Herald. Williams' star has dropped significantly since his prep days, as multiple run-ins with the law have lead him to be placed on probation and a serious knee injury sidelined him for all of the 2004 season.
Williams, who has received permission from Miami head coach Larry Coker to seek a transfer, had made inquiries at West Virginia, Tennessee, Fresno State, and Rutgers without receiving any offers and Louisville had inquired, but was rebuffed, as the Cardinals and Hurricanes are scheduled to play this season.
Troy, a Sun Belt Conference team, could be attractive to Williams as its conference features two Florida-based teams in Florida Atlantic and Florida International. Williams, as a transfer, will have to sit out a season, but would be permitted to play in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He could also seek an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA due to the knee injury that cost him the 2004 season.
