Congratulations to the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Friday night,
Appy State defeated the University of Massachusetts, by a score of 28-17, making the Boone, North Carolina-based school the 2006 Division I-AA Champions. Running back Kevin Richardson ran for 179 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Mountaineers. Richardson's four TDs allowed him to set a DI-AA record for rushing scores, with 30.
A sellout crowd of 22,808 watched the game in Chatanooga, Tennessee. Appalachian State, also the 2005 champs,
has not lost a game to a non-DI-A team in over 14 months.
