Conference USA Decided; Houston to the Liberty Bowl

Last night, Houston beat Southern Miss., by a score of 34-20, to earn the 2006 Conference USA crown.  The Cougars had not won a CUSA title since the conference's initial season in 1996.  The Cougars finished the regular season with a 10-3 record and their win earned them a trip to Memphis to play in the Autozone Liberty Bowl on December 29th, where they will meet the SEC's #6 team, most likely Kentucky or South Carolina.  Southern Miss. finishes the season with a record of 8-5.  They will meet Ohio University in the GMAC Bowl, held in Mobile, Alabama, on January 7th.
