New England Cable News (video link) is reporting tonight that Boston College Head Coach, Tom O'Brien, will accept the same job at North Carolina State, leaving Chestnut Hill after ten season, six straight bowl wins, and as the winningest coach in the program's history.
He replaces Chuck Amato.
In ten seasons, O'Brien amassed a 75-45 record, but according to
David Glenn's ACC Journal, O'Brien was 10th out of 12 in the conference on the payroll list. Sources tell Glenn that the deal will pay the 58-year old O'Brien $1.2 million per season, up from his current $733k.
No word on the length of the deal or if O'Brien will coach the eagles in their bowl game. They play Navy in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
