WVU's Coach Rodriguez Denies Interest in Alabama
Another day and another coach supposedly signed, sealed, and delivered to become the new Head Coach at the University of Alabama. After several days of "leaks" that South Carolina's Steve Spurrier would be named the new coach of the Crimson Tide, earlier today, an article appeared on the West Virginia Metro News indicating that WVU coach Rich Rodriguez would, if offered, sign a reported 7-year/$21-million deal with the SEC school after the Mountaineers regular season finale against Rutgers.
An angry Rodriguez called in to a local radio show in Morgantown and vehemently denied any connection with the open Alabama position. Going as far as to say, "I plan to be at West Virginia for the rest of my career," and that, "it’s very upsetting to me, the night before a game, to have my family and recruits and players to wonder what’s going on, when all week I’ve told them that nothing was going on. I don’t know why people would throw that out there. I don’t know why people would intentionally try to hurt myself or my program by this stuff.'
Many West Virginia fans have been following the developments with a keen eye and hanging on Coach Rodriguez's every word. Although I doubt it will, I hope that this statement will lay to rest any other rumors of the 6-year head coach leaving his alma mater any time soon.
