Canes' Willie Williams Granted Release to Transfer

CSTV When Willie Williams enrolled at the University of Miami he came in ranked the #6 ranked player and top linebacker as seen by Rivals.com for the Class of 2003. He played in the US Army All-American Bowl and was slated to make in instant impact on the field for the Hurricanes. Then the problems started to come out. Williams had an arrest record of up to 11 different cases but Larry Coker and the University of Miami decided to overlook it and let him enroll. He even spent a few days in jail for violating probation. The University and the football team took a lot of flack for letting Williams enroll in school with his arrest record. On the field, instead of making an immediate impact for the Canes, Williams spent the first season on the bench. He redshirted to heal injured knee in 2004. In 2005 he played mainly as a backup and on special teams but it looks like his days as a Miami Hurricane are over. Williams has asked and the Canes have granted his release from his scholarship to look elsewhere. As of right now Williams is not enrolled anywhere but if he does enroll in another Division I-A school he will have to sit out a year before he can play. If he chooses to go down to Division I-AA or below he can play right away.
