Commitments for the Week of June 5th
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights picked up their first commitment of the year when Wayne Thomas, a 6 foot 6 inch 285 lb DT from Nottingham NJ, chose the Knights over Miami, Ohio State, and Boston College. This is a big get for the Scarlet Knights who have to do a better job of getting the instate talent.
Penn State received their fourth commitment late Thursday evening as TE Jon Ditto selected the Nittany Lions over Pitt, Michigan, Tennessee, and Ohio State. Ditto has the ability to play TE, slot WR, or an H-Back position in college.
Damien Berry decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and committed to the Miami Hurricanes earlier this week. Berry, whos father played for the Canes in the late ‘80s, is a 5 foot 11 197 lb athlete/safety. The Belle Glade Central (Fla) native chose Miami over Florida, Rutgers, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
A 6 foot 1 inch 180 lb WR from Sandy, Utah made an oral commitment to the BYU Cougars. Scotty Ebert wanted to stay close to home and felt that BYU was the perfect fit for him. He chose the Cougars over Utah State and Weber State.
Running back Jeremy Reed decided to make Kansas State coach Ron Prince a happy man by committing to play for the Wildcats. Prince who is a 5 foot 11 205 lb running back from Great Bend, Kansas narrowed his choices down to the two instate schools, Kansas and Kansas State. He said his relationship with the coaching staff was the final straw when he finally made his choice of K-State.
The UCLA Bruins received a commitment from Steve Sloan. Sloan is a 6 foot 3 inch 227 lb linebacker from San Jose California. In his junior year Sloan had 133 tackles, 18 of them were tackles for a loss. He chose the Bruins over California.
Finally, a 6 foot 3 inch OLB from Alief Texas made a soft verbal commitment to Tulane on Tuesday. Cheta Ozougwu has offers from Louisiana Tech and Tulane but feels that for the time being Tulane is the place for him. He wants to keep his options open though. This is one of the reasons I think that college football needs an early signing period. Kids are allowed to go back on their verbal agreements but the schools cannot take back the offers once a kid accepts.
