USC's Sanchez Cleared

Prosecutors from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office decided late yesterday afternoon not to file any charges against Southern Cal quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez had been arrested on an alleged sexual assault on another USC student April 26th, off campus. LA County Deputy District Attorney Richard Telander told reporters, there was "a lack of sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt." In a statement released through USC, Sanchez said, "From the outset of this investigation, I've been confident that the facts would come to light and that investigators would confirm that I was innocent of the allegations against me." Sanchez, a Mission Viejo native, is expecting to compete with John David Booty for the starting quarterback job for the Trojans, replacing 2004 Heisman Award winner Matt Leinart. Booty is recovering from a balky back that has bothered him since the start of spring practice. If the 19-year old wins, he would be starting as a redshirt freshman.
