Here, Have Some Turkey With That Football
Brian has been a bit industrious this week on our weekly look at the games of the week. With everything next week relating to the BCS or Army/Navy, the prestigious managing editor of this blog is trying to catch me in the weekly picks column. By the way, the blogger has a two game lead on the podcasters, shhh. :)
So on this week full of turkey and stuffing, we have nine, yes, nine games that we are keeping an eye on.
Also, since I plan on being sober riday, and some of you have to work, I'll be updating games during the day Friday.
Florida at Florida State- Florida State is between a rock and a hard place. They are like Teri Hatcher pre-Desperate Housewives. Too old to be hot, and not clever enough to be good again. She fixed that about herself, it remains to be seen when the renovations start for Florida State.
This is the proverbial trap game for Florida. They must win. All the talk of Southern Cal and Michigan going to the title game has to irk the Gators big time. A one loss SEC team, despite the drop-off in the conference, is still better on paper then a one loss team in any other conference. Expect Florida to be in your Glendale conversations after blowing out FSU by 17.
Boise State at Nevada- I know almost nothing about these two teams. Boise State must run the table to get to the BCS. They seem to be peaking about now, but this is a conference game on the road. Nevada plays with a rather unique offense too, should be a fun watch.
The Smurf Turf by 7.
South Carolina at Clemson- Will he or won't he? Only Steve Spurrier's hair dresser knows for sure. ($5 off any purchase at Bub's Discount Barn to the first person who gets the joke here.)
The rumor mill has the Ol' Ball Coach headed for Coral Gables to resurrect the Miami Hurricanes next season, and that will overshadow this nasty game between two bitter rivals.
Clemson is probably the best ACC team on paper, but has been inconsistent enough that they are headed for a mid-tier bowl game, while South Carolina cannot beat a ranked team.
It's in Death Valley too, not boding well for the Gamecocks at all. If Spurrier is gone, this could get ugly early. His ego will send him South, Clemson by 14.
Wake Forest at Maryland- After seeing Wake Forest get shredded by Virginia Tech last week, you wonder if Cinderella had gone home. With Maryland getting pounded by BC last week, this goes from a playoff game to a spoiler game in a hurry.
It's the ACC and anything can happen, like the Dookies getting beat last night, so I'm sure that lots of strange things will happen. Wake Forest is too good of a story not to try for a BCS slot and would be a bigger heartfelt story than Boise State. They earn a trip to Jacksonville with a 3 point win.
Georgia at Georgia Tech- Yet another game where the teams don't like each other. Georgia has the most to prove. They have finally settled on their quarterback, which is good because their next game after this is their bowl game. A strong win here will reinstill a lot of the good will and bad press the underachieving Bulldogs have had this year.
You hate to say that this game doesn't mean anything for Tech, but outside of bragging rights, this game means nothing for Georgia Tech, except the country gets a good look at Calvin Johnson, the best wide receiver in the country.
It may not mean a bunch, but the Yellowjackets should win by 5.
USF at West Virginia- Steve Slaton is the best player in the country, period. WVU by 21.
We'll save the big three for Friday.
Happy Thanksgiving!
