Surprises Dominate Early Saturday
Wide left, once again the Bowden family is bitten by a missed kick at the end of regulation. This time it wasn't Bobby. Tommy Bowden and his Clemson Tigers fall 3 points short against South Carolina. The Tigers have now lost 3 games by a total of 5 points. This was a big win for South Carolina winning against their rival in Death Valley.
In Morgantown, the Mountaineers lost to South Florida 24-19. This game was a shock to most of us because the Bulls are really not a good team away from home. But their freshman Quarterback Matt Grothe outshined his counterpart Pat White on the way to a victory for the Bulls. That victory eliminates WVU's chances for a BCS bowl. Usually a strong point for the Mountaineers, the offensive line did not play well as Pat White was pressured all game while throwing and he had no room to run. Slaton had a costly fumble on the 1 yard line that would've brought West Virginia closer in the 3rd quarter.
The Big East winner will either be Louisville or Rutgers with Rutgers controlling its own destiny. Rutgers beat Syracuse 38-7 and if they beat WVU next week they will be the BCS representative. Louisville needs to beat Pitt this afternoon and hope Rutgers loses to WVU.
Florida State is not going away easy as they only trail the Gators 21-14 early in the fourth quarter. I bet the Seminoles would love to derail the Gators' slim chances to sneak into the title game.
