More Thoughts: Week 1

Written by In The Bleachers on .

Well when the post-mortems are done on this season, we will note that Cal's title chances came to a crashing halt on a summer afternoon in Knoxville. Tennessee's 35-11 victory was not even as close as the scoreboard indicated, it was orange and white from start to finish. Time will tell just how over rated Cal was and how underrated Tennessee is. Notre Dame leaked some serious oil in the first half. Georgia Tech has played better than the 10-7 halftime score indicates. Brady Quinn has not looked like a top Heisman candidate so far. The Yellow Jackets have kept the Irish star off balance and out of rhythm so far, making Quinn's passes float high and away, like a fastball pitcher releasing too early. Sneaking away from most tv sets tonight, buried on TBS, Alabama-Birmingham is giving Oklahoma a scare. The Sooners lead 24-17 late. Steve Slaton has punched his Heisman credintials, he goes off for 203 yards and 33 carries for two scores as West Virginia crushed Marshall 42-10. Colorado has layed the egg of the day. They lose to I-AA Montana State 19-10 at Boulder. Brian will give his thoughts and I'll answer my questions tomorrow.
