Other Games of Interest for this Weekend
This weekend is a great weekend for college football as it boasts seven match-ups (discussed in the Podcast) between teams in the Top 25. But those aren't the only good match-ups for the third week in college football. There are some other games that could have some conference title game implications and other games where the winner could be ranked in the top 25 after this week is all said and done.
Michigan State at Pittsburgh - High noon at Heinz Field is the location for this match-up of two 2-0 teams. Both teams rolled easily over their first two opponents and this will be their first test in this young season. This game will not lack offensive power as each team has an above average QB that has been in the offense for 3 years. Palko is erasing memories of last year's sub par year and Drew Stanton is still one of the best QB's in the Big Ten. Pitt has had some issues running the ball and I think that will be their downfall in this game because they won't be able to control the clock. Michigan State wins this one in a very late 4th quarter score.
Clemson at Florida State - Don't miss Bowden Bowl...whatever. These two teams are hoping to rebound from poor performances last week. Clemson lost in overtime to Boston College as they had an extra point blocked and Florida State needed a 4th quarter comeback to beat Troy. Drew Weatherford had a good day passing for over 300 yards but for the 2nd game in the row the Seminoles couldn't get anything going on the ground. Will Proctor lead the way for the Tigers but their defense couldn't seem to stop BC when it counted. I think Florida State's overall athleticism will be the key factor in this game. Their speed on defense will be too much for Clemson to over come as they win this game by 10 points.
Iowa State at Iowa - This rivarly game is always close no matter what the records are of the two teams. Both teams come into the game 2-0. Iowa State is trying to prove that they are the team to beat in the Big 12 North while Iowa is trying to prove they are a contender and not just a pretender after that close win last week against Big East doormat Syracuse. Iowa State has won 6 of the last 8 meetings but I don't seem them winning this one. Last week was a wake up call for the Hawkeyes. Their defense stepped up when the game was on the line and with Drew Tate back the Hawkeyes should roll.
