Saturday Quick Thoughts: Week 1
As Cal and Tennessee go to the half with the Vols up 14-0, this has been a remarkably scripted day.
Really only Michigan was tested in the early slate of games. However, they ran well and the defense played well. They should be okay.
The smallest winning margin for a top 25 team playing outside the top 25 is 20, that's Michigan over Vandy.
It looks like a huge win for the Big East, Rutgers will beat North Carolina. The ACC looks wobbly out of the gate, BC struggled Thursday and Duke trails Richmond.
The Big Ten opens up 8-0. All four ranked teams win with relative ease.
Two Pac-10 thoughts, Washington struggled at home before beating San Jose St. 35-29. More on Cal in a bit.
Boy, Texas in mid-season form and Nebraska settled in before pounding La. Tech.
One big I-AA game had Hampton defeating Grambling, 27-26 in OT. Both teams are top 15.
Now, on to the featured afternoon game. Tennessee looks to be very dominant. They have kept Cal on their side of the field in the first half as the Vols are pitching a shut-out so far, 14-0. Cal looks confused at Tennessee's speed on defense, while the tv crew is wondering if Joe Ayoob will get some qb time for the Golden Bears. Erik Ainge has looked very good under center for Tennessee. Looking very good for Rocky Top.
Rutgers Ramell Rice had 31 caries for 201 yards on the groundagainst the Tar Heels.
