By now most of you have heard about the blunder that
Brent Musburger pulled last Saturday night while calling the USC vs Nebraska game. For those who don't, Brent informed the entire country (and all of USC's opponents) about the hand signal that John David Booty gives to his receivers when they notice one-on-one coverage. It's an old surfer's hand signal, hang loose.
I think this is just a total lack of professionalism on his part. He was granted access by USC to go behind the scenes and Musburger should understand that there are things you can and can't say on the air. He's been doing this job for a long time now so this should be a no brainer. Maybe he just had a slip up, but he should apologize to the USC football team and Pete Carroll for what he's done.
It has always been my understanding that announcers should add to my enjoyment of the game, but lately they all seem to be more worried about making a name for themselves by trying out new catch phrases. But listening to Brent the past 5 years has become more and more painful. If he is doing an Ohio State game it is even more painful. So bad that I turn the sound off on the game because I can't stand to listen to his excitement when the BUCKEYES make a good play. Not because I don't like the Buckeyes, because I expect my announcers to be impartial. Is that too much to ask.
Keith Jackson knew that he was losing his knack and decided to hang it up last year, maybe Brent you should do the same. That way you can watch your precious Buckeyes every week and not infect the rest of the country with your love-fest of them even when you aren't doing their game.
