Cleaning Up A Mess
This post means squat comes this evening, but based on yesterday, these are my BCS predictions:
Sugar- Hawaii v Georgia
Yeah, there goes one of my title game picks off the bat. Tennessee, in a computer picking system, would probably be the better BCS choice, but this is about filling seats and the Bulldogs have been higher rated for most of the season. Colt Brennan will make for great New Years night watching now that Hawaii ran the table. It's a good matchup.
(Ideally, Hawaii beats Michigan in the Holiday Bowl and wins the National Championship. ;) )
Fiesta- Oklahoma vs ASU
Arizona State gets the Pac-10 wild card by default. They should provide for an interesting foe against an Oklahoma team thinking they've been robbed in not getting to New Orleans. Don't think that Phoenix is minding a bit have a local team on a "neutral" field either. I could see Arizona State winning by the way.
Orange- Virginia Tech vs Missouri
Two top ten teams that have had very good years. A game that would not draw much hype, but at #5 and #7 in the coaches poll, could potentially be a classic. Chase Daniel, along with the Hokies in general, make two very good stories along with a whale of a good football game.
Rose- USC vs West Virginia
WVU qualified for the BCS, but last night's upset took them out of the game they would probably be best matched up in. Southern Cal is the hottest team in the ountry not in Oklahoma, while Pat White and Steve Slaton now have a massive chip on their shoulder. It may not be the whole enchilada, but going into Pasadena and beating USC redeems the whole season.
BCS Game- LSU vs. OSU
Never has a title game had two teams less deserving to play for it. Then again, of all the BCS teams, no other matchup seems to drool must see television either.
They both won their playoff games, tOSU winning the defacto title beating Michigan. LSU's losses were epic and Ohio State lost to a very good Illinois team. While this year's crop of teams will not be talked about for generations to come, the Tigers and Buckeyes are the cream of the crop and should play for the non-existent title.
This year doesn't scream for a playoff, but the plus one game needs to happen. No team, in my opinion, has earned the right to play for the title, but the top two teams standing after New Years will have that pedigree.
