Late Games Bring Excitement to Saturday's Action

Before I get to Saturday's late action, let's look at what happened in the early parts of the weekend. If West Virginia doesn't have the fastest backfield in the nation, I don't know who does. With Patrick White, Steve Slaton, and Noel Devine opposing teams better recruit some cheetahs to catch these guys. With Louisville's loss, I believe now that the Big East is the Mountaineers' to lose. Clearly I think that there are 5 teams that are head and shoulders above the rest of the nation. In order, USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, and West Virginia. Florida made me a believer after putting a huge hurting on Tennessee on Saturday. The duo of Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin is just amazing and their defense did a lot better than I expected and Tennesse fans should worry that their season could go down the crapper. Texas on the other hand, has no business being in the Top 10. In week one they struggled a bit in beating Arkansas State, in week two they were being shutout at the half and used a second half comeback to beat TCU, and finally last week they held on for dear life against UCF. If not for a late game fumble by the Golden Knights, the Longhorns would be 2-1. Someone send out an APB on the UCLA Bruins' defense. What I think happened was that the Bruins defense from the Emerald Bowl kidnapped the Bruins' defense from the first two weeks and did not allow them to come to the game against the Utes. If this holds up, both USC and Cal will put up 60 points on the Bruins. Looks like whatever ground Karl Dorrell gained in the first two weeks, he lost (and then some) with the 44-6 loss. Now to the night games. Alabama came out swinging and John Parker Wilson looked good, but they blew a 21-0 lead late in the forth quarter. Nick Saban should send a thank you card to Houston Nutt because Nutt gave him that game. Late in the fourth quarter the Hogs had the ball, 3rd down and 11, the Tide had no time outs remaining. What does Nutt do? He throws the ball. Why would you throw the ball when you could've ran off 45 seconds on the clock. Alabama scored with 9 seconds to go in the game. I am going to pound my chest and say I did call it in the beginning of the year on the podcast that Kentucky would beat Louisville, although I didn't have the guts to do it on the pick 'em. Andre Woodson is a legit QB and I think they are going to make a lot of waves in the SEC. Louisville on the other hand looks pretty bad on the defensive side of the ball. I expect them to lose at least 2 more games, one to WVU and either to USF or Rutgers. The Boston College-Georgia Tech game was a snooze fest except for Matt Ryan throwing the ball all over the field against the Yellow Jacket's secondary. If either of these two teams were in any other BCS conference, they would be lucky to finish in the top 3rd. USC flexed its muscles and showed why they are the #1 team in the nation by beating Nebraska in Lincoln. USC has so many weapons on both sides of the ball that I find it hard to imagine that anyone can beat them right now. Nebraska after the loss should not feel too down, I honestly believe they are the 2nd best team in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma, but do Husker fans believe it? It wouldn't be right unless I gave a hat tip to the Duke Bluedevils as they ended their 22 game losing streak with a victory over Northwestern. For another great wrapup of last week's action visit College Football Frenzy. Finally I end this post on a sad note, my crush Kate Walsh got married recently.
