Coast to Coast Blogging: Championship Weekend
Well it is all signed sealed and delivered for my bowl season. Myself and a few of my closest Nittany Lion friends are off to LA for the New Year to watch Penn State play most likely USC. Yes there is a chance USC could lose to UCLA or some how the stars align and the Trojans end up in the National Title game. But I bet there is more of a chance of a fat man in a red suit sliding down my chimney or getting Ohio State fans to admit they aren't Big Ten Champs this year.
We are already starting to hear it from Trojan fans and the rest of the country alike...Penn State has no chance against USC. The same Trojans' team that lost to Oregon State (a team which Penn State easily beat), everyone points to their thrashing of Ohio State, but none seem to remember it was a Beanie-less Buckeye team and USC was at home. Also, let's not forget that Pryor had very very little experience at that point. I think besides the Championship game, the Rose Bowl will be the game to watch.
All eyes will be on the SEC and Big 12 Championship games. Three teams control their own destiny, Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma. Wins by those teams and they will be in the National Title game, but if Oklahoma loses all bets are off, we might see Texas work its way into the game. Which as you know I think it utter garbage since they did not win their conference title.
Part of me feels bad for Texas fans because it was factors outside their own conference that had them lose the Big 12 South Title. The Longhorns only have the Big 12 to blame, it was in writing before the season started that the tiebreaker was the BCS Standings in the case of a 3-way tie, so maybe they will schedule some tougher out of conference opponents.
Boston College won its way into the ACC Championship game and will face Virginia Tech for the second year in a row. If those remember last year, the attendance at the ACC Title game was about as baron as vegetation in the desert, but if you want to go here are some ways to get tickets. Two coaching changes of note, the Fulmer era is officially over and the Lane Kiffin era at Tennessee begins today. At Clemson, it looks as if “interim” tag will be removed and Dabo Swinney and he will become their new head coach. I found this the other day and it took me back to some of the good teams Penn State had in the 90s. Check out this youtube clip of Aaron Harris. He was in the backfield at the same time Curtis Enis was, unfortunately for Harris, an injury cut his career short.
