50 Best of the Non-BCS: Number 5

Written by Adam Nettina on .

#5: QB Max Hall, BYU

The Verdict: Few non-BCS quarterbacks make it into the Heisman trophy discussion, but if there is any player outside of the holy trinity of Tebow, McCoy, and Bradford who has the opportunity to win the award in 2008, it is Hall, who comes into the season as one of thirty players named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year award watch list. Hall is seasoned, veteran, and skilled, possessing one of the best arms of any quarterback in the country, and comes into his senior season with a career 61-26 touchdown-interception ratio. Underrated in terms of his pocket ability, Hall has pinpoint accuracy on mid-range throws, and sees the field better than any other quarterback in the conference. With early tests against Oklahoma and Florida State (not to mention conference showdowns with TCU and Utah) Hall could vault himself from a Heisman Trophy "darkhorse" to a legitimate candidate.
