#19: QB Rusty Smith, FAU

The Verdict: Already the school's record holder in passing attempts (1,073), completions (603), yards (8,197) and touchdowns (62); the 6-foot-5 redshirt senior out of Jacksonville may just go down as the best quarterback in conference history when his career is all said and done. A two-time Sun Belt Player of the Year (2007 and 2008), Smith has been the chief force in guiding the Owls from the dregs of college football to back-to-back bowl wins, including last year's 24-21 win over Central Michigan in the Motor City Bowl. While his completion percentage (53.8%) was down in 2008 from where it was in 2007 (58.7%), Smith did have the bad fortune of losing his team's top receiver for the season as well as sustaining a separated shoulder in the opener. Fully healthy for the start of 2009, Smith returns with seven other Owl offensive starters from a year ago and leads one of the best offenses that you've never had the good fortune to actually see on TV.
