As The College Football World Turns: The Ohio State, Jim Tressel, Oregon plus Crime & Punishment

Written by Michael Felder on .

A lot has gone on in the college football world and to think, this offseason without the looming expansion shoe seeming to drop on a weekly basis we thought it might be a little boring. Just in the last week we've seen the Oregon Ducks called into question over their participation in a recruiting scandal where Lache Seastrunk is the major player involved. In the Midwest we have recently caught wind of the possibility that Jim Tressel might have known about the Buckeyes much discussed transgressions surrounding the Sugar Bowl as much as eight months in advance.

Tressel

It is becoming pretty clear that whenever Yahoo! and, more specifically Charles Robinson and/or Dan Wetzel, take a shine to your program it isn't because they admire something your team is doing. Batten down the hatches and start shredding everything, they're doing to do their best to bang on you.

From the personal perspective I wish the same thing for Oregon and Ohio State that I do for every school that is involved with the NCAA; I hope they get out ok. I hate it for the kids who ultimately get punished as a group for the alleged sins of a few. Also, I can't begin to express my disgust for those of you who see this as some sort of a time to point the fingers and call Team A dirty, touting the squeaky clean nature of your own program simply because you haven't gotten busted.

It is continuously the dumbest thing that college football fans do and it seems like as a group we're stuck on stupid in that regard. I've argued the point with my own UNC fans for years and just a word of advice to everyone else who sees their school as THE anomaly; in the last THREE calendar years we've seen Ohio State, Michigan, USC caught up in investigations. Those are schools that live at the top of the college football map, what the hell do you think your school is doing as they try to get closer to the status elite schools already have?

That said, get this read into your system from our good friends over at Blatant Homerism if you're a Ducks or Buckeyes fan just so you're familiar with standard protocol for fans who are dealing with an investigation. I'm pretty sure UNC and Auburn fans did their homework in taking on their accusers.

So now that we've touched on those issues a bit I figure I better announce that we're bringing the livechat back just for you folks. We're going to discuss the NCAA issues, give up some theories, talk some rumors and what this could mean for the entire college football landscape. We're also going to hit on an issue that truly irked me last week; the CBS/SI Crime & College Football article. If you missed my thoughts on The Pulse network use this as a primer to get up to speed with my take.

We'll also hit on Cam Newton's Pro Day which happens today, live over on ESPN3 today.

We're going live at 10pm EASTERN folks. There will be fun times had by all so be sure to set your email reminders, we'll be tweeting about it all day and any topics that you're interested in discussing will definitely be open for debate. If you can't make the chat be sure to drop some comments and of course tweet me anything you'd like brought up.
