Friday, It's So Fetch! Vol. 25
Friday, Fetch Friday, today is another Fetch Friday! Last night we saw my pick to be "another" undefeated, Houston, go HAM on Rice after a slow start; dropping 73 points on the Owls to win by 39. Given SMU's recent loss to Southern Miss it seems the Cougars are the clear favorite in Conference USA. In the "big" Thursday night game we got a little ACC action with the Hoos traveling down to Miami Gardens to take on the Canes.
Virginia keeps moving on their upward trajectory as they get another ACC win against Miami. The Canes tried to come back but big plays out of the Virginia offense kept Miami at bay. The ACC is again a "what had happened was" league. Outside of a Clemson team most folks keep waiting to come to earth and the always solid Hokies it is definitely an "anybody can beat anybody" year. Virginia comes off a loss to NC State to whip Miami? The same Miami team that handled UNC. The same UNC team that handled UVA. Goodness.
Speaking of UNC we've got homecoming this weekend and things are going to get weird. As in I'll be there, there will be bourbon, there will be pig, there will be The Boys returning and fun shall be enjoyed. On the field we're looking at two very different teams; Wake the disciplined and execution driven team and UNC the super talented but head scratching at times explosive team. I got a chance to talk to Martin Rickman over at the Demon Deacons' site Blogger So Dear yesterday so there's a fun little chat posted that takes a look at the upcoming game.
Now we've got some new conference developments but first a little Eric B. and Rakim:
Mizzou to the SEC was outed thanks to an SEC website "uh oh" and it appears, at least for the moment, that West Virginia has galvanized the Big XII with 10 teams for the future.

With Mizzou to the SEC the dance is complete, for now at 14 teams in the mightiest conference in the land. Texas A&M and Mizzou peacing out of the Big XII for a league where, to be honest, they enter as the middlingest of middling programs from the jump. It is rumored that aTm will be in the West while Mizzou, while west in location, will be slotted to the east. That means the Aggies will get a dose of Bama, LSU, Auburn and Arkansas every season, always and the Tigers will be doing work against Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina in the coming years on the reg.
The reasoning behind Mizzou to the east has thrown some folks but ultimately for the preservation of a couple good rivalry games it is the right move. Risking the loss of The Third Saturday in October OR the Iron Bowl for the sake of geography just seems ultimately silly. Make the new guys travel further, keep Auburn in the West with their state partner and keep playing Tennessee-Bama and Auburn-Bama.
On the West Virginia news the Mountaineers; after asking the ACC and the SEC and getting denied by both, have found a home finally. Holgorsen gets to return to the conference that made him a hot commodity and the Big XII, with new Commissioner Chuck Neinas, appears to be in good hands for the moment. Texas, again, gets what they want by replacing A&M with TCU and adding a school that is no threat to their mini-empire in Austin.
Sure West Virginia has the ability to beat the Longhorns in any given year but the Mountaineers won't be dipping their ladel heavily into the Texas recruiting pool the way an SMU or Houston type school would. What you do get with West Virginia is a team that's been right explosive offensively in the recent decade and that's a trend that should continue with Dana Holgorsen at the helm.
We've got a great Slate of games this week and our Slate of Eight with Luke Zimmermann has them all profiled for you. We've also got a look at the NCAA's hit policy from yesterday to have a look at. Stop screaming "helmet to helmet" because that's not a rule folks.
As for your's truly, I'll be in Chapel Hill. Fighting the good blackberry battery fight by disconnecting my emails and taking the charger to the tailgate to stay in radio contact with you folks for all the festivities. If you're in the area holler at me and perhaps there can be some hang outs, I will gladly drink and eat whatever free adult sodas and food products that aren't vegetables that you offer.
Be safe and enjoy the weekend, we don't have very many left folks!
