In The Bleachers Podcast: Kyle Kensing of NCAA.com Stops By To Talk Pac 10

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITBToday, Kyle Kensing, one of my favorite folks on twitter and from NCAA.com stops by to drop some Pac 10 knowledge on us during what has been deemed Pac 10 week here at ITB. We're going to talk about all things Pac 10 as the league looks to rebound from their 2-5 bowl season in 2009. There's plenty to discuss as schools such as Washington State and Arizona State are in varying stages of rebuild, Oregon has their own problems regarding discipline and the rest of the league is trying to fill holes to claim the top dog spot.

The Pac 10, as it has historically, his stocked with elite quarterback talent as Nick Foles, Andrew Luck, Jake Locker and Matt Barkley all return to compete for a title. Luck must prove he can work without the likes of Toby Gerhart while Barkley must work with his young studs to replace heavy hitters on the offensive side of the ball.

Don't worry we'll it into Lane Kiffin at SoCal, the co-defensive coordinator position at Arizona and Oregon's numerous legal issues. Replacing Masoli will be a topic and be sure to listen for the Red Dawn segment of the show as Kyle and I re-hash a midday twitter conversation.

And I make it a point to not forget about the talented Mr. Riley and his Beaver squad that always seems to be on the verge of a Rose Bowl berth.

In The Bleachers Podcast: Eric Galko from NFL House and the Optimum Scouting Department talks Pac 10 Prospects

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITBEric Galko is back for our weekly chat about all things NFL draft and beyond and he is kicking off Pac 10 week the same way he did ACC week. We get heavy into the Pac 10's draft class which is highlighted by guys like Toby Gerhart, Charles Brown, Alterrean Verner and Jahvid Best.

The conversation kicks off with a candid discussion on LeGarrett Blount and his "maturity" issues that have seemed to become major news with NFL talent evaluators. Galko touches on the difficulty that comes with evaluating a player who doesn't get worse but drops down the draft boards because of non-football related issues.

Weaving our way through the Pac 10 we touch on plenty of the big stars as Galko gives us the straight dope on guys from all the league's schools. Rob Gronkowski gets his due but with caution as the back injury could be a career ender while Sean Canfield is taken to task as being the guy who has done the least to elevate his draft stock.

In The Bleachers Podcast: Tim Hyland from About.com Drops By

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITBWe wrap up ACC week with Tim Hyland the lead college football writer from About.com and get his take on the ACC. Hyland drops in with some great points about what the ACC needs to do in 2010 as a whole to elevate the league's status. Hyland talks about Georgia Tech's ability to win in bowl games as well as after bye weeks. He's a Paul Johnson guy so you can guess what his answer will be.

In keeping with our theme of this upcoming ACC season we spend some time talking about BC, a team that I vow to never forget about in the grand scheme of things. The rest of the league gets their due and we hit UNC as we always will here at In The Bleachers.

The show closes with us talking a little scheduling as the ACC features some of the most exciting non-conference games for the 2010 season. Hyland brings up a very interesting point as he discusses the need for strength of schedule to be factored into the BCS equation to reward teams for playing stiff competition. Hyland also hits on the Urban Meyer-Deonte Thompson-Jeremy Fowler controversy that took over the scene in the college football world last week.

We kick off the first official spring preview week on Hoot & Holler Live! with the ACC. After having some strong guests this week Rob Harley and Michael Felder finally get to give their own personal take on the ACC in 2010. Expect plenty of chatter about league favorite Virginia Tech, Florida State and Georgia Tech as well as talk about the situations at Virginia, Maryland and NC State. We'll get into the rebuilding of the U and how far Shannon can take the Canes plus touch on several other big boy topics.

Michael will make sure to talk some BC football because after over looking them since the 2004 Continental Tire Bowl he has made it his duty to trumpet the merits of the Eagles for the 2010 season. Clemson will get their due as Napier tries to prove he's worth the $25,000 raise without CJ Spiller plus Duke and Wake Forest will get served a hot dose of reality.

And there is no way we escape without talking Tar Heels. As tonight will also be another resounding log put on the fire growing between Michael, In The Bleachers and all the LSU readers out there. By the time the show is over UNC's defense might be akin to the Ray Lewis, Rod Woodson Ravens if Rob doesn't talk Michael down just a bit.

Folks on a serious note check out Harley's Helping Hands and give what you can to help with the research for and care of people diagnosed with brain cancer.

That clip was more to calm Michael down than anything else as his boy RT gets a dose of the U's special teams. Be sure to tune into the show live at 7:30 EST by clicking here.

Want to give your two cents on the topic? Go ahead and hit Rob Harley or Michael Felder up on twitter! Or feel free to call in at 724-444-7444 and use the code 27329#.

In The Bleachers Podcast: Brett Jensen Stops By To Talk ACC Spring Previews

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITB PodcastFolks on this edition of the podcast we've got a special invited guests, someone who hails from my neck of the woods and whose radio and writing work I truly enjoy on the reg; Brett Jensen. Jensen, from the Southern Sports Journal and the sports radio station WFNZ in Charlotte stops by to talk all things ACC football. Brett's got a healthy understanding of the region from his work at the Charlotte Observer, ESPN, Fox Sports, Scout as well as at Clemson and Georgia.

We open the show up by discussing the state of the league as a whole, looking at the "Local Perception vs National Perception" of the ACC as a football conference. Jensen details what the league needs to really pull even with some of the other power conference and reminds us that the jury is still out on several ACC coaching hires such as Dabo Swinney and Tom O'Brien.

As Jensen and I get into team previews he sheds some light on some of each teams' woes as well as discussing some of their finer points. Virginia Tech, FSU and Georgia Tech are his favorites in the league but schools such as Boston College (he didn't leave you out!), North Carolina and Miami all have a shot at making some noise in the ACC in 2010.

And yes folks, we close out the show talking a little UNC-NC State as Tom O'Brien struggles overall but has beaten Butch 3 of 3 times. For NC State, TOB getting his first winning record in Raleigh is job one while in Chapel Hill Butch Davis mustn't lose to a far less talented NC State squad.

In The Bleachers Podcast: Eric Galko from NFL House and the Optimum Scouting Department talks ACC

Written by Michael Felder on .

In The BleachersOur NFL draft expert Eric Galko from NFL House and the Optimum Scouting Department stops by to talk about the upcoming draft and he is happy to participate with our first day of ACC week by highlighting the league's best draft prospects. Galko takes us from the elite prospects like CJ Spiller and Derrick Morgan and then waxes philosophical on all the possibilities for your ACC school's favorite players and who your NFL team might be in the market to draft.

However, before kicking off the ACC fun party Galko takes the time to talk about Florida's Pro Day. He discusses Tebow's ability to move up the boards with the Vikings entering the mix along with the easy favorite, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Eric also talks about Brandon Spikes' 40 time and why this is a true test of how important the 40 is to a prospect's draft status.

After hitting the Gators we get into some of the ACC's most familiar faces as Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Miami players all get their due on the show. Duke makes an appearance with Vince Oghobaase and Thad Lewis as possible selections. All in all Eric takes the time to hit on some league favorites and highlights the show with his commentary on some of the ACC's more promising players.

And yes NC State fans you get invited to the party as I have Galko hit on Willie Young's prospects at the next level.

The main goal with this focus is to turn the leagues upside down by hitting on the most poignant questions for the spring.

This is the preview of the league previews so there will be plenty of back and forth, speculation and we'll try to get Rob Harley to sign on the Justified bandwagon. That's right folks this is also the show where we try to decide if the new Timothy Olyphant show on FX is worthy of being crowned as the "official offseason obsession" of the In The Bleachers crowd.

In The Bleachers Podcast: The Subway Domer stops by to talk all things Notre Dame

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITBWe go all Golden Domers and Touchdown Jesus on you guys when we have the always insightful and always entertaining Subway Domer on the show from the website, Subway Domer. The Domer kicks off by weighing in on the Clausen side of the debate before we discuss the heavier issues of ND spring football, trouble with the rivals and the ever exciting conference affiliation topic.

The first issue we hit on is the replacement of Golden Tate, ND's most dynamic playmaker, by Theo Riddick a running back transitioning to the slot receiver in the coming spring practice. Dane Crist's knee injury comes up and it appears that the young gun should be somewhat good to go for spring, participating in non-contact drills. The podcast also takes the time to talk about the return to the 3-4 and how Brian Kelly's offseason program is getting the boys ready to, hopefully, play some defense.

Next up on the docket is the discussion of Notre Dame's chief rivals Michigan and Southern Cal from a Domer's perspective. Good ol' Subway raises an interesting side as he says ND fans shouldn't be tap dancing on the Maize and Blue or Trojans' grave as their fall truly downgrades the Irish's schedule. Especially if sanctions of the "no TV games" variety are handed down.

The last two topics are the expansion and spring scrimmage idea floated out by Dabo Swinney. Subway Domer repeats the Swarbrick idea of going with a conference if it is absolutely vital to Notre Dame's success but preferring to remain independent. He also floats out the idea of the ACC being the second option should the Big 10 move forward without the Irish. Interesting theory as the ACC flirted with ND before the addition of BC, VT and Miami.

Lastly the show sorta, kinda ends abruptly as get into the thick of the spring scrimmage discussion where the Domer converts me from desiring big matchups to wanting to see a sort of "jamboree" styled coaches clinic with schools who would, otherwise never get to work with BCS caliber programs.

In The Bleachers Podcast: Eric Galko from NFL House and the Optimum Scouting Department Talks Wonderlic

Written by Michael Felder on .

ITBToday on the podcast we're joined by our NFL Draft expert Eric Galko from NFL House and the Optimum Scouting Department. Galko returns to talk all things draft and in this edition we hit on the latest of the vogue draft information morsels; Wonderlic scores. More specifically quarterback wonderlic scores as Tim Tebow, darling of the college football world scored just a 22, Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame Golden Boy recorded a 23 and everybody's All-American Sam Bradford posted a 36 on the 12 minute exam.

Galko weighs in on the test's importance and why it can, in limited instances, forecast a players ability to succeed in comprehension at the next level. I then take Eric into the waters muddied by the Sam Bradford vs Jimmy Clausen debate to get his take on the two week battle between In The Bleachers and Blatant Homerism. Galko sides with the good and knowledge of your's truly as he delivers quite an excellent, unstaged performance.

Galko wraps up by explaining the significance of Pro Timing Days on campus and why they're both excellent tools for un-recognized players and sometimes misleading.
