Friday, It's So Fetch! Vol. 26
This Friday could absolutely be the most Fetch one we've had since the Royal Wedding for oh, so many reasons. For Florida State the Fetch started yesterday evening as they took the boot to the Boston College Eagles by a final score of 38-7 and the "Fire Spaz" talk is really going full throttle. Before we get into the Fetch we've got a podcast for everyone and I highly recommend that every fan out there listen to this to gain some perspective. Brian Sakowski joins me on the program and the originator of this ITB empire sheds some light from "the other side" today.
Other side?
The officials side. Brian's a college football official and now was as good a time as any to finally sit down and talk about all those little officiating details that people don't know, don't care to know, wonder about or probably should know. We kick off by talking about who is actually on the field and what each position is actually responsible for when the plays start. Then we get into the part that folks really care about; holding, pass interference and the hits. A true must listen as it will help explain why some things aren't called, why somethings are called and really humanizes the officials as they are, we must remember, out there doing their job.

. Now folks, on to the more fetch type stuff, starting with a little James Brown double set.
We've got hate week, we've got some celebrity situations and of course we've got the game of all games tonight. This weekend's going to be a good one and we're kicking it off here.
As you know when Fetch Friday started we were dropping nuggets from the pop culture world all over your eyeholes and we got a chance this week to get back to those roots quickly. At first I thought it would be the interesting enough Kim Kardashian divorce which I figured would happen. I never bought into the Kim and Kris hype the way I did the Royal Wedding, it was so made for television and contrived in general.
But then something stole Kris Jenner's shine; the Beibs. Justin Beiber the 17 year old, who has now cut his trademark swoopy bob off, is allegedly a baby daddy. A fan who claimed he slept with her at a concert now has a reported "Beiber lovechild" and is suing for child support. Yes. This is awesome on so many levels. A story I never heard of consumed me yesterday as Beiber gave non-denial deflections until this morning on the Today Show when he said:
"None of those allegations are true...it's crazy some people would make up those false allegations. Set the record straight, none of it is true...Never met her"
Oh this will be fun. The Beleibers are going so hard, including death threats to the lady. Call me jaded but the idea that a male celebrity slept with a female fan then avoided her through his public relations people for months doesn't seem that odd.
Now back to football. We've got a big game this weekend in Tuscaloosa. The Tide host the Bayou Bengals and this game is being set up to be a de facto elimination game for the national championship. Win and you write your own ticket. Lose and you are in a world of hurt fighting the dreaded "rematch hate" and hoping teams don't jump you on the strength of being undefeated. Over at Crystal Ball Run we've got a ton of stuff up about the game and that includes my quick diddy about the differences between LSU and Alabama's defenses.
Oh and we've got the podcast with Russ Mitchell up here at ITB to talk about the LSU-Bama showdown as well.
Hate. Week.
My Heels take on North Carolina State this weekend in Carter-Finley Stadium and this is the chance for the Heels to fix all that has been wrong with the world for the last four seasons. We've lived through two bad football teams in 2007 playing where the Tar Heels lost 31-27. Been through two teams on the rise where a little kid named Russell Wilson led the Wolfpack to a 41-10 massacre on a cold November afternoon in Chapel Hill when the Heels were 11 point favorites. Seen the underdog win again in 2009 when State needed the season ender to get bowl eligible. And then there was last years miracle play frustration as the wizard tossed a prayer up from inside the red zone. A game in which UNC had 7 sacks, State totaled -7 rushing yards but Wilson put up 411 yards through the air.
It. Is. Time.
The fight is back as we've seen both sides jawing in this game for the first time since it was a John Bunting-Chuck Amato affair in the early and mid-2000's. I don't get so wrapped up in the fans as some folks, all sides have their idiots. What I care about is winning. State is our rival. This is my game. The only contest that comes close is UVA and there exists a somewhat mutual respect for being so similar with the Wahoos. For those of you who think Duke is our chief rival have a conversation with someone who plays something other than basketball and maybe soccer or lacrosse. The Blue Devils get owned by everyone, in everything.
The Heels appear to have damn near every advantage in this game but we've been favored in the last three contests so that doesn't seem to matter much, it must be settled on the field. These boys in blue, to borrow from Larry David, need to get in that ass. Eat some Snickers bars, read the newspaper, throw some trash, spray paint "UNC WAS HERE" and leave that shit open so the entire Wolfpack nation knows we've been there.
Go Heels. Go America.
Let's get it.
