In The Bleachers Podcast: Josh Havard from the Lufkin Daily News
On this edition of the podcast we've got Josh Havard from the Lufkin Daily News stops by to talk about one of the drafts most intriguing prospects, Dez Bryant. Bryant is a Lufkin native and Havard has been the sports editor for the Lufkin Daily News for eight years, covering Bryant during high school.
Havard fills us in on the first time he saw the dynamic playmaker as a sophmore snagging touchdown catches. Bryant had some academic issues that limited his playing time early but grew into the state's best receiver, dazzling crowds and was undoubtedly the best player on the field everytime he suited up.
Josh gives a little background into the rough area Bryant hails from as well as praises the troubled youth for both avoiding the legal issues that hampered his peers but also overcoming the academic challenges he faced to enroll at Oklahoma State.
The town of Lufkin has produced several big time players and each of them has been a cautionary tail for Bryant as guys like Javorski Lane and Reggie McNeal all suffered career setbacks. The town is cautiously optimistic that Bryant will be a success as he appears to be taking the right steps toward proving his dedication to the NFL.
