ITB Shorts Episode 13
The ACC is not the only league looking to cash in through the television rights deals; the Big East is on the clock. Folks have speculated that the Big East could, thanks to competition in the marketplace, cash in with their new television deal; that's the reason the league turned down last years $130 million per year offer. However, new news has been exposed from industry sources by CBS Sports that things may not be looking up for the newly aligned coast to coast conference.
In realizing that football is driving the deal there are a number if interesting things to consider: how does adding teams of little value elevate the Big East beyond their current valuation, how do teams that don't carry the markets they are in help draw more cash and how will selling basketball games improve the number when football is what the network wants. The league is most certainly in a fight for cash and it does not look good. BUT, NBC Sports is trying to claw its way into the marketplace and the channel, desperately in need of inventory, might be able to provide the boost that the conference is looking for.
